En nombre de mi hija Silvia Margarita Vergara, mi esposo y yo, queremos agradecer a Study Union la oportunidad que tuvo Silvia de estudiar en Canada por unos meses los cuales en efecto fueron provechosos para que nuestra hija practicara el inglés, pero también muy provechosos en su crecimiento personal.
Nosotros reconocemos la seriedad de la Empresa y su cumplimiento frente a lo que fueron nuestras expectativas, especialmente porque estuvimos tranquilos mientras nuestra hija estuvo en este País el cual tuvimos el placer de conocer con la excusa de venir a recoger a Silvia. Ella se va feliz por la experiencia vivida. Además quiero comentar que la familia que la recibió forma parte del programa en cuanto la señora es Coordinadora en Nova Scotia, tuvimos el placer de conocerla y es una persona maravillosa, seria, responsable y muy amable.

Si, toda mi vida había tenido miedo de dejar mi casa, mi familia y mi ciudad, Pero siempre hay una primera vez y la excursión a Canadá podría ser la mía. Mis papas siempre habían estado entusiasmados con ese viaje y sinceramente por temor a desilusionarlos nunca dije nada de mis miedos y por el contrario me mostraba muy feliz con este, lo que honestamente no era verdad.
Gracias a dios tuve miedo a decirles, porque sino, hubiera cometido el error mas grande de mi vida. La experiencia a Canadá, me enseño hacer mejor persona, a darme cuenta de lo importante que puede ser la familia para uno, de que definitivamente lo mas importante en la vida es aprender a ser tolerante, porque siendo tolerante no vas a tener problema nunca con nadie. Para que les voy a decir mentiras, tuve algunos días en donde no veía la hora de volver a Colombia, pero otros en donde creo que ni siquiera me acordaba que esa no era mi familia, llegaron a ser tan especiales conmigo que ya los veía como una verdadera familia, me sentía como en casa. Gracias a Study Union, hoy me considero una persona totalmente nueva ya que si no se les hubiera ocurrido la idea de hacer excursiones a otros lugares del mundo, creo que todavía seguiría con mis miedos y posiblemente nunca los podría vencer. Esta experiencia fue inolvidable para mi, estoy totalmente convencida de que haría muchas mas excursiones con Study Union, porque aunque muchos no lo crean no es la idea de conocer otro país y otras culturas, es la idea de conocer principalmente, yo quien soy y que quiero hacer en la vida.

Un estudiante de Study Union fué destacado en ILSC Canada  Andres Fadul estudiante de la Facultad de Relaciones Internacionales de la Universidad del Norte se hizo merecedor de un artículo en la web por su destacada presencia en ILSC, Andres viajó a Canada en uno de nuestros programas y combino los estudios de ingles con la realización de su Pasantía en ILSC Vancouver (Programa de 6 meses) Te damos la Bienvenida Andres! Meeting people who want to succeed Andres Fadul with one of the subjects of the winning shot on the cover of the 2009 calendar, Robert Bonner, who recently visited the Hope in Shadows office. Andres' internship for Hope in Shadows involved many activities, including helping with the training sessions for people who want to sell calendars between early October and early December. Robert says he's getting used to people recognizing him on the street - including a couple of calendar sellers who get him to sign their calendars before hitting the streets to sell them. Hope in Shadows ESL intern Andres Fadul writes about his experience assisting with the sales training program I consider this program a great opportunity for people to express how they perceive living in a community like the Downtown Eastside. I had the opportunity to go to the award ceremony at Carnegie Community Centre. I found a community that is really proud and that has a lot of stories to tell to the rest of the people of Vancouver. During my ten weeks as an intern for Hope in Shadows, I have worked with the training sessions created for people who want to sell the calendars. My work is to make I.D. badges for the calendar sellers. I have met a lot of nice and friendly people in this community. When I arrived in Vancouver, I only heard negative things about the Downtown Eastside. I think it might be the same for everyone else who comes to Vancouver, as a student or as a tourist. But having worked with Hope in Shadows I realized that this perception is about stereotypes. I have realized that the Downtown Eastside is not all about drugs as you can hear from the media. I am meeting people who want to succeed and improve their lives they just need to take a chance and realize how talented they can be. Colombia  Montreal is a one must-go destination for me. There are a lot of things to do and nice places around to meet that are awesome. The family accommodation was great! I have wonderful times with them and it’s nice because Chris, my homestay brother is about my age and it’s fun to be able to hang out and meet the REAL thing. The winter is really fun in Montreal and there is a lot of new people to meet around here. The ski is great and the nightlife…well, I can’t tell how cool it is.
